Vision, Mission and Philosophy

Shelter, Inc.
is a

Vision, Mission, Philosophy Driven Organization

Vision

We envision:

  • A society where its citizens are enlightened and aware of all social injustices, especially the dynamics and effects of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • A universal community where victim/survivor services are readily available and rooted in dignity, respect and individual choice.
  • A world in which acts of domestic violence and sexual assault are recognized as violent crimes, and perpetrators of personal violence are viewed and addressed as criminals throughout societal and judicial systems.

Mission

Shelter, Inc. is a community supported human service organization dedicated to assisting victims/survivors and their families in ending domestic and sexual violence and discrimination in their lives through education, systems change, building community partnerships, and ensuring availability and accessibility of support services.

Philosophy

  • These acts of violence are criminal conduct that must not be tolerated. We are dedicated to promoting a comprehensive community response to domestic violence and sexual assault through education, prevention, intervention and aftercare services dedicated to diminishing violence and abuse.
  • Shelter, Inc. is committed to empowering survivors to achieve self-sufficient, violence free lives. We are committed to bringing about social change vital to ending abuse. Shelter, Inc. is committed to offering services with the highest level of dignity and respect absent of discrimination regardless of age, color, height, weight, national origin, marital status, physical or mental handicap, gender, religion or race.
  • Shelter, Inc. is committed to the premise that domestic violence and sexual assault affect all social, economic, ethnic, age, color and gender groups as well as persons with disabilities. We believe these acts of violence have devastating effects on victims, their children, extended families, friends and our society at large.
