Dear____________________________

I am a tenant at _______ in Oakland, California. On _____, 2008 I received a (notice of trustee sale and/or notice to vacate from an attorney/broker/real estate agent) and understand that the property has gone into foreclosure.

I have spoken with a local fair housing agency, Sentinel Fair Housing, and have been advised of my rights. I have been instructed to put my rent money into a separate bank account until you can prove to me that you are the legal owner of the property and have the right to collect rent. Please do not come to our home to collect rent unless you have legal documentation that supports your ownership of the property.

Please do not use any intimidation tactics or threaten the members of my household in any way. Your failure to use the legal process to collect rent will subject you to legal action. We have sought legal advice and will also have the support of the Oakland Police Dept. in the event that there is reason to request it.

Please respond at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely,
