SCADP contracts with the Downey Unified School District to provide a school-based intervention program for elementary school students. SCADP youth counseling staff work at 13 elementary school campuses in the Downey school district to provide assistance to high-risk young people. Counseling is offered for a variety of issues which interfere with learning, including family substance abuse, gang involvement, domestic violence, depression, and anxiety. Our Student Assistance Program is one of the first in the nation to work with children in the primary grades; most SAPs throughout the nation are operating in high schools. The program operates from mid September to mid June.
