Our salvage volunteers are a very special group of dedicated people who sort and repack food that comes to the Food Bank in damaged containers. Salvage volunteering is easy and a great way to help get good food to those in need. Since salvage volunteers need to be trained, we ask them to commit to volunteering on a regular basis. Most volunteers work weekly, but we also welcome those available on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. We are currently looking for volunteers Wednesday-Friday mornings.
Volunteer to Work the Farm
Volunteers are always welcome to help plant and harvest at our farm.
Volunteers assist with various duties including mailings, filing, bookkeeping, data entry and other tasks. Office volunteers work on an as-needed basis, usually during regular business hours.
The Food Bank's largest and most public fundraising appeal takes place each year during the holiday season at Crossgates Mall. Hundreds of volunteers spend a few hours asking shoppers to donate to the Food Bank. Businesses, civic organizations, schools, and families are encouraged to sign up for a full day or just one shift.
The Regional Food Bank conducts several fundraising events each year. See our list of events and date. Volunteers participate on committees to assist with the many tasks of coordinating a successful appeal.
