Holiday Hunger Appeal
November 19 thru December 24, 2008

The Holiday Hunger Appeal is the Food Bank's largest and most public fundraising event. This appeal runs from mid-November to Christmas Eve. A Holiday Hunger Appeal display is set up at Crossgates Mall where volunteers ask shoppers to make a donation to the Food Bank and hang ornaments on the holiday tree.

Many businesses and organizations serve as Matching Day Sponsors, matching collections in the mall on designated days and providing all or some of the day's volunteers. Other groups take up collections or participate in special activities (such as the Ornament Pin-Up Program) to raise funds and donate the proceeds to the Appeal. A special Holiday Hunger Appeal mailing also produces contributions.

Gift Alternative

The Regional Food Bank's Gift Alternative program offers people an opportunity to feed their hungry neighbors by making a donation to the Food Bank in honor of family, friends, and business associates. For a donation of $5.00 or more per gift, the Food Bank will provide a card acknowledging that a financial gift to food the hungry has been made in the name of the recipient. The Food Bank offers three different types of cards: a memorial card, an "In Honor of" card for birthdays, anniversaries, etc., and five specially designed holiday cards. The holiday cards contain the following message:

"In recognition of your generous spirit and in keeping with the true meaning of the holiday season, a financial gift to feed the hungry has been donated to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York."
