Other Ways YOU Can Help
Other Ways YOU can help

First and foremost, you can help by spaying and neutering your own pets, and by encouraging your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same!  If you are not sure about if or why you should do this, simply click on the link to the left "Why Spay or Neuter" or Click here .
And almost just as important, you can help by spreading the word...by educating others about the importance of spaying and neutering their own pets and those that are wards of the community in shelters and feral cat colonies.  Share with everyone the information contained on our link "Why Spay or Neuter".  Doing so will save innocent lives and improve your community!

You can help by financially supporting the efforts of The Neuter Commuter so that it may provide low cost spay/neuter services to communities across New Jersey and to provide to those who may not otherwise be able to access such services.  You may make a tax deductible donation to help us keep the spay/neuter mobile clinic, The Neuter Commuter, on the road and helping our communities' people and pets.  Click here to make an online donation.  Or you can print our brochure donation form and mail your donation.
Click here for Our Brochure.  The Passaic County Spay Neuter Van Coalition, the entity that operates The Neuter Commuter, is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We rely completely on your donations in order to continue to be able to offer these services to our communities. Thank you, in advance, for your greatly needed and continued support!
And last, but not least, you can help by volunteering your services in support of the efforts of The Neuter Commuter so that it may provide low cost spay/neuter services to communities across New Jersey.

The following is a letter received by the Passaic County Spay Neuter Van Coalition from a group of local animal shelter volunteers expressing their great gratitude for and support of the mobile clinic operations.

A LETTER OF APPRECIATION...

July 29, 2006
Passaic County Spay/Neuter Coalition
1360 Clifton Avenue, #348
Clifton, New Jersey 07012

Dear Coalition Members:

Enclosed, please find a check for $100 to thank you and in support for the extraordinary effort you have made on behalf of our animals.

We, like so many shelters, had identified the need for low cost spay/neuter but were unable to get the support to put such a program in place. Our area vets do substantially discount our services but this discount is not available to the general public. Every summer we have been overwhelmed by an abundance of kittens.

For the first time ever, we did not have any kittens coming in from our area towns and were able to rescue many, many adult cats and kittens from the Passaic Shelter. Many of the area residents who used the services of the Coalition had commented that their cats had more than one litter, one person's cat had six litters previously. When asked why they had not spayed, the answer was that they could not afford the $300 plus fee from area vets.

Our number of kittens has also substantially diminished due to the fact that the van is an affordable, convenient method of spay/neutering feral cats. Some of the statistics I have read site as much as 60% of incoming kittens come from feral. With the help of the Coalition, we have been able to do TNR with very positive results. Our Animal Control Officers have been very, very supportive of this effort also, to the point where they have asked to be able to hand out the Passaic County Spay/Neuter Coalition literature, and have referred people.

When faced with a hoarding situation and the prospect of over 50 un neutered / un spayed cats coming into the shelter, the Coalition was the first to offer help, including offering to secure vets and bring the van to the shelter.

The dedication of the Coalition's staff is amazing. To make sure everything runs smoothly, the van is at our location the night before, Susan is at the shelter the first thing in the morning making sure everything runs smoothly, and then follows up with a phone call to check on the welfare of the cats that had surgery. Joanne accompanies Eric to make sure the van is properly placed for maximum efficiency. We can only say nice things about the vets and vet techs! This has been an extraordinary experience for us and we are so delighted with the results. As offered before, if our shelter can be utilized for more dates, we would be happy to do anything we can.

By having the Mobile Spay/Neuter Van attend the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Ringwood, we were able to bring more positive attention to our combined efforts to cut down on pet overpopulation.

This is a great example of what a coalition of shelters working together can accomplish, and we hope it is just the beginning! Together, we can make a real difference. We would love to see this program expand and could easily utilize more dates if available.

Advertising the services of the Passaic County Spay/Neuter Coalition has also brought a very positive image to our shelter, and brought in more traffic. We are distributing the Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic's literature with each kitten that leaves our shelter, and will follow up with a phone call at the correct age to insure that we do not contribute to the problem of overpopulation.

Again, our sincere thanks for all you have accomplished, and we so enjoy working with the coalition to bring about a brighter future for our animals.

Very truly yours,
Ellen Ribitzki
