Jack & Rocky enjoy their new yard

 Jack and Rocky were reunited!
Rocky and Jack

We heard about NIPRA from one of my husband’s co-workers at a point when we were ready to welcome a new canine companion into our family. After seven wonderful years with us, our beloved, adopted golden retriever had passed away from cancer and we missed him terribly.

We saw Jack on the website and applied to adopt him. We were so excited when we found out that we could take Jack home! We picked him up and he was more adorable than we could ever have imagined. It was love at first site with Jack and we were instantly pugged - so much so that we soon decided to adopt a second pug as a companion for Jack.

We contacted NIPRA again and learned that Rocky who was still in rescue had been Jack’s companion. They had been abandoned and wound up at a vet clinic in the Chicago area. NIPRA had room for both boys but unfortunately they didn’t have foster home space to keep them together.  My husband and I discussed it and decided that we wanted to bring Rocky home too and reunite the boys.  So a few weeks after adopting Jack, Rocky too became part of our family. The boys were so happy to be together again. It was heartwarming to see them cuddling as if they had never been apart.

We are trying to bring up our children to have love and compassion for animals and to understand their impact upon the world.  Jack and Rocky are helping with that. They have been a wonderful addition to our family. They love our girls and our girls love them!   I could not imagine life with out them now!  They have added so much to our home, the way they cuddle and their endless love and companionship.  We are so lucky to be all together...  They have such a special place in our hearts and we know we are special to them as well.  We are blessed to have Jack and Rocky in our lives!"

Emmy Lou with her new family

Emmy Lou

Emmy Lou. a two-year-old fawn female, came to NIPRA as an owner surrender.  Her family could no longer take care of her, and so she was placed in a foster home and put on the "adoptable Pugs" list. We spotted her picture and immediately fell in love with her.  When we inquired about her availability, we were told that she was still looking for her forever family and so we set the wheels in motion!

After we were interviewed, given a home visit and reference check, we were given the go ahead for adoption! Emmy Lou had a new home! Emmy Lou found her way into our hearts as soon as she came to our home.  She ran right up to me with love and "kisses".  I melted.  Emmy Lou felt at home immediately and fits right in with our family.  She sleeps with my six-year-old child and has taken over my three-year-old child's television chair!!  The whole family is enjoying having Emmy Lou in our lives just as much as Emmy Lou is loving her new life!

I could not have asked for nicer people than the ones I had met at Northern Illinois Pug Rescue.  From my first conversation with Susan, to my home visit with Mary, to Emmy Lou's foster mom, Linda, I knew that all of their hearts were in the breed and their cause of finding loving homes for these sweet animals.

Thank you for helping us find our
perfect match with Emmy Lou!

Libby Lu (above) & Herbie (below)

Herbie and Libby Lou

My name is Karyn and my daughter Danielle and I adopted two pugs from NIPRA a few months ago.  Their names are Herbie and Libby Lu.  I heard about the rescue while at work as a Registered Nurse.  A medical student at the hospital said she knew of someone who was fostering two Pugs and looking to find them a forever home.  I already have a Pug, so I was more than interested in the conversation!  The medical student helped us get in touch with Herbie and Libby Lu's foster parents, and before I knew it, we were on our way to go and get them!

Herbie and Libby Lu are the greatest dogs!  They get along great with our two dogs we had before them; yes, we have four dogs now!  They are all very well behaved and very funny.  Herbie and Libby Lu are part of our family now; they fit in right away and quickly became welcomed family members!

I truly believe that these dogs, and Pugs in general, are very lucky that there is a group like NIPRA to take them in, and people like the foster families that take care of them and love them until they are adopted.  It has to be a very difficult time for the animals being moved around like that, and yet they are so good and loving.  I would refer anyone that I knew would be a good parent to a Pug to NIPRA.

Thank you all for being there for the Pugs.  We love them.
