Our flagship store, Mountain Valley Textiles and Gifts, is located at
209 8th Street in beautiful Downtown Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
History of the Weaving Store
The weaving program at Mountain Valley Developmental Services began with an endowment from a local Aspen family and the use of three looms. Individuals receiving services from Mountain Valley Developmental Services who expressed an interest, were taught how to weave. Products were eventually sold at local fairs and holiday bazaars. The decision was then made to expand the program to include a retail store and studio. The goal was to provide the weavers with a community inclusive setting, the opportunity to market their goods and to interact with customers. The store has proven to be invaluable to the individuals that work here. The pride they take into the work is evident and they are valued for their products in our community. They have received national recognition for their work, and constant compliments from all the customers who visit our store. The sale of the work provides the weavers with an income and the opportunity to interact with the public.
Mountain Valley Developmental Services is committed to providing opportunities for people with developmental disabilities and also to supporting and promoting the talents of others; we strive to provide a venue for the work of Colorado artisans and showcase the work of many Roaring Fork Valley residents. We also feature handcrafted gift items from around the world that are purchased through socially responsible importers, who support crafts men and women in regions of the world where economic hardship exists.
