MPI Nicaragua:  Partner Organizations

Alongside Ministries

Alongside Ministries en Nicaragua (AMEN) consists of two families: the August Family (Kathy, Halle, and son Brookes) and the Guiterrez Family (Amanda and Thomas).  MPI works with these families on a daily basis, making them an intregal part of MPI´s sustainability in Nicaragua. They own and maintain the community center ("El Salero") in Chiquilistagua as well as the multi-purpose facilitiy ("El Farito") in Cedro Galan.  In MPI’s infancy, the Augusts played an instrumental role in helping to get us started in Nicaragua, offering facilities, assisting with programs, and providing overall logistical insight.  And still today MPI is so thankful for the ongoing partnership we have with AMEN.  Read more.

 Funjofudess

Funjofudess is a Belgian organization committed to providing basic medical assistance to the community of La Chureca, which is tucked inside Managua´s city dump.  The organization built a clinic in La Chureca to accomplish this goal of caring for the people’s fundamental health needs, providing medication for about $1. While many health problems affecting residents cannot be cured at the Funjofudess clinic, the doctor and nurse recommend visits to locations that can treat the patient.  MPI began its connection with Funjofudess through Esmeralda, the nurse in the clinic who helps run the Child Sponsorship program. MPI has recently solidified its partnership with Funjofudess and a local pediatrician to supply consistent healthcare to those within the program.

Juntos Contigo

Juntos Contigo is a nonprofit organization that was started by a Dutch woman. This organization is conveniently located right next to the clinic in La Chureca, and is run on a daily basis by local Nicaraguan university students. The primary activity kids engage in at Juntos Contigo is having fun, as there are always plenty of smiles to go around. There is a feeding program and instructive activities such as reading, art, and sports. These activities suit the primary goal, which focuses on offering a safe location for kids to come and play instead of working in the trash or being left at home.

Project Hope (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) began in 1958 as a converted navy ship occupied by doctors, nurses, and technologists that traveled around the world. Everywhere they went, they worked on health-related projects and trained medical staff in underdeveloped countries. Since then, Project Hope has grown from a mobile hospital to an established provider of health care education, treatment, and facilitation. Projects include disaster relief and humanitarian assistance, microfinance programs, professional health education, facilities design and renovation, and treatment of such widespread diseases such as Tuberculosis and AIDS.

The Project HOPE – MPI relationship developed out of the realized need for improved health care in the area surrounding Cedro Galan and Chiquilistagua. Adopted from an already-existing model in the Dominican Republic, the clinic will house approximately 5-10 full-time doctors and will be focused on helping pregnant women and young children. Construction on the site is scheduled to began in early 2007.
