MPI Nicaragua: Community Center

About the Center   -   Current Programs

About:

Since MPI began working in Nicaragua in August of 2004, the organization has partnered closely with Halle and Kathy August of Alongside Ministries (AMEN) to develop a seven acre plot of land in the Chiquilistagua community into a fully functional community center and sports complex, completely free and open to the public. The Augusts’ vision has been to create a place “that builds people up and provides an area to relax as well as be challenged physically, spiritually, and mentally”. (Taken from their website, www.salero.org)  Since development began four years ago, MPI and AMEN have utilized hundreds of volunteers and over $200,000 in generous donations and grants to complete the construction of a baseball stadium, soccer field, basketball court, lending library, computer lab, and multi-use event house called the ranchon.

Current Programs:

In the past two years, MPI has utilized these facilities to expand its English classes for children and adults, and literacy and computer classes for children. Additionally, MPI uses the Ranchon facility to hold women's exercise classes twice a week for over 40 women and the baseball field has been home stadium for two years to MPI's team for boys ages 15-21.
