Psychiatry and Nursing
Interventions to promote
health and recovery

Dr. Vrabel and the psychiatrists she supervises work with our clients, social workers, and counselors to help them formulate and implement treatment strategies that respond to each client’s unique characteristics, strengths, and needs. She has emphasized the use of:

  • staged interventions that are responsive to clinical status and readiness for treatment;

  • assertive outreach to retain clients who may have interrupted or discontinued treatment;

  • motivational interventions to help clients develop and sustain engagement in treatment;

  • counseling to help clients learn skills for symptom management and abstinence;

  • supportive interventions to help clients develop comfort in social interactions and to cultivate a social network;

  • a long-term perspective that recognizes the time and effort required to establish patterns of thought, social perception, and behavior: and

  • intervention strategies that respond to clients’ cultural values.
