“We the People” State Competition
The state competition was held at the Jefferson Parish Courthouse in Gretna, Louisiana on February 6, 2009. Three teams, Helen Cox High School, West Jefferson High School and John Ehret High School, competed for the opportunity to represent Louisiana in the We the People National Competition that will be held on April 25, 2009. John Ehret’s team, led by George Allan, emerged as the victor. Jonetta Jackson from Cox and Chris Totaro from West Jefferson are to be commended on the outstanding performances of their teams.

Carl Dermady, Jr. did an excellent job organizing the state event, which included, in addition to the student competitors, several time keepers, scorers and a diverse panel of nineteen judges.
