Mr. Kenneth Lerchie is the recipient of the prestigious President's Award for Excellence in Law and Civic Education for 2007-2008. He was presented with the award at the Mid-Year meeting by LCE President, Val Exnicios on January 11, 2008 at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Kenneth Lawrence Lerchie teaches at CaddoParishMagnet School. He has been an educator for over 35 years. From 1972-2003, Mr. Lerchie has served in a variety of capacities at Loyola College Prep Jr High School in Shreveport, including as principal, as well as Chair of the Department of Social Studies, and a Teacher of History, theology Economics and Sociology. Since 2003, Mr. Lerchie is the teacher of Civics, Free Enterprise and Social Studies at Caddo Magnet.

Mr. Lerchie brings law related education alive in his classrooms and teaches his students how to be good citizens by educating them in the Constitution, its history, amendments and core principles. They are also shown the voting process, political parties, Electoral College and the qualifications of the candidates for various offices.

Mr. Lerchie also requires his students to prepare reports on each US Supreme Court Justice and the issues currently pending before the court as well as past cases. His students also report on current local, state and national news, discussing their relationship to the laws and how they will be tried in the courts and why the courts make the decisions they make.

Mr. Lerchie believes that law related education prepares students for the future. His students leave his classroom understanding their responsibilities and go out into the world good citizens.
