President^s Award for Commitment to Law and Civic Education
Outstanding Civics Teacher Award
This annual award is given to an outstanding Louisiana elementary, middle or high school teacher who imparts knowledge and understanding of Law and Civic Education and demonstrates the use of interactive learning techniques that make a difference in student learning. Award presentation is a joint partnership of the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education and the Louisiana State Bar Association.
The recipient is honored at a reception at the Louisiana State Bar Association^s Midyear Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. The winner is presented with a plaque and a monetary award in recognition of their commitment to law and civic education. Deadline for the submission of applications for the 2009-2010 award is December 15, 2009.
Civics in Action Award (CIA)
This award is presented to the Louisiana middle or high school student who exemplifies what it means to be an engaged citizen in their school, home and/or community. The applicant must be committed to making a difference through the use of government or their school environment. Examples would be one who helped to get a bill passed in the Louisiana Legislature or pursued positive change in his/her school through the school governmental process. The CIA award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Louisiana State Bar Association before the Board of Delegates.
The 2009 honoree is Matthew Brandeburg, a valedictorian of Caddo Parish Magnet High School in Shreveport, Louisiana. He received a plaque and a complimentary one night stay at the Sandestin Beach Resort in Florida. His award was presented before the Louisiana State Bar Association^s House of Delegates at the Annual Meeting on June 12, 2009.
