Law Day 2009 Art Contest

The Louisiana State Bar Association invites all Louisiana high school students to create an original work of art, in any medium, inspired by the following theme:
The American Legal Legacy: Freedom, Justice, Liberty, Equality

Mark Your Calendars! Teachers Summer Institute Scheduled for July 23 -24, 2009.

The annual Summer Institute is a professional development program with workshops and curriculum development. Expenses are paid and attendees are eligible to receive a stipend, a free set of textbooks and a teacher's guide. Enrollment is limited. More details to be announced shortly.

Nominations for the Student "Civics in Action Award" Deadline Extended

Help the LALCE recognize a Louisiana middle or high school student who exemplifies what it means to be an engaged citizen. Do you know a student who has made a difference or an improvement of the quality of life in their school, home, or community through the use of civic engagement?
The award recipient will be recognized at the Louisiana State Bar Association's Annual Meeting to be held in San Destin, Florida in June, 2009. Deadline Is April 15, 2009.

| Teen Court Judges Needed |
| Orleans Parish Teen Court is a first-time offenders program that is part of the New Orleans juvenile court system. The program is held twice a month on Wednesday nights in two juvenile judges' courtrooms in the CDC building. Volunteers are needed for 2-hour sessions.

In order to cultivate and encourage youth involvement in the democratic system of government, the Louisiana Public Broadcasting has created its Louisiana Public Square in the Classroom multimedia competition for high school social studies classes to enter.
