Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education
PRESIDENT'S EDUCATION AWARD
 
WHAT IS THE AWARD?
The Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education is the public education partner of the Louisiana State Bar Association. The Award, established by the President of the Louisiana State Bar Association and funded by private donations, is given annually to one or more teachers around the state in recognition of their law related education work. Recipients of the Award will be recognized at a reception in early 2009 in New Orleans during the Louisiana State Bar Association’s annual Mid-Year Meeting. Recipients of the Award will receive public recognition and funds to be used for the purchase of law related education material for their classrooms.
 
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
• Social study educators teaching grades K-12 in Louisiana and who are certified teachers.
• Educators who teach in an accredited Louisiana school.
• Educators who have taught Civics and/or Law Studies for a minimum of 1 year.
 
HOW TO APPLY 
• Submit a cover sheet providing your name, your home address, the name of your school and school address, your social security number, home and school phone, email address, parish, number of years teaching.  
• Attach to cover sheet a typed one page statement on why law related education is important to you and your students. 
• Statement should include a brief description of your current LRE content and how your students are impacted by your efforts to teach them about the law, the legal system and foundations of democracy. 
• Application must be accompanied by a letter of support either from your school principal, or from the Director of Social Studies of your parish; or from a parent or a student who is familiar with your work.   
• Submit your original cover sheet and statement plus four (4) copies.
• Application Deadline: December 15, 2009 4:30 p.m. 
 
AWARD SPECIFICS
A committee composed of lawyers, educators and civic leaders will review your application. A minimum of $300 will be awarded for the acquisition of LRE materials for the winner's classroom.

Award winner will:
• Agree to attend one workshop sponsored by the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education.
• Permit members of the legal profession and/or a representative of the sponsoring agency and its public relations team to visit the classroom and observe a lesson presentation during course of the award year.
• Receive reward notification on or about January 5, 2010.
