There are so many definitions for this and many times users
at organizations will be searching for laptops for charity
and not know the exact and best way to do this. What is interesting
and this has been studied before by certain groups is that
the word charity, although usually referring to the organization
when used in one sense, may also refer to a donation which
in this case would be a donated laptop for charity.
It has been our conclusion after researching the Internet
(Web) for sources of laptop charity that they are not available.
This may be due to many reasons and other studies seem to
draw the same conclusions. First, laptops are very expensive
and when users want to get rid of their systems, many times
there is still a lot of value, hence the hesitancy. As it
turns out, many times when a user want so pass on their system,
such as a laptop to charity, that they are not willing to
part with something of value.
Desktop systems cost less than laptops and people tend to
keep them longer. Many times, this is not understood but one
reason is the number of programs and data on the desktop system.
A laptop may be used as a second system and therefore doesn't
have the quantity or quality of programs and data. For this
reason, they are easier to stop using sooner because the user
is not left with tons of data and programs to move from their
laptop.
Meanwhile, the charity is hoping to receive laptops and finding
it very difficult. This trend has been a long time in the
works and there is no current or short-term future forecasts
of this changing for a charity.
