SERVICES PROVIDED

An Overview

Food Pantry

We provide both perishable and non-perishable food items through our pantry. Clients may come once every 30 days as they have need. They must be a resident of Brown county and bring proof of address.

Tracts and New Testaments

Every order of food that goes out contains an evangelistic tract. New Testaments and Bibles are available to our clients in both English and Spanish upon request.

Clothing Room

Good used clothes are sold in our clothing ministry at 3-pieces-for-$1 or 50-cents-each. Fridays are dime days - everything costs 10 cents. Most of the people who come to us do not want a hand-out. Our prices are low enough to allow anyone to be able to afford clothing and at the same time give a sense of ownership.

Samaritan Aid

Financial assistance is provided to help families with past due rent and utilities. Payments are made directly to the vendor on the client's behalf. The client must pay a portion of the bill first. Assistance is provided only once during a 24 month period.

Help for Health

Financial assistance is available to help Brown county residents with health needs. A client can be assisted with doctor visits, Rx's, optometrist, eyeglasses, dental, medical supplies, etc. during a 12 month period up to $150.

Volunteerism

More than 200 individuals give of their time and talents to make this ministry a reality in the community. GSM provides service opportunities to

  • The church laity for mission service,

  • Civic and service organizations,

  • Schools,

  • Pre-work programs,

  • Social work students,

  • Youth groups, and

  • Individuals who wish to be involved in the community.

  • We also provide a place for probationers to work out their community service hours.

Disaster Closet

Household items are collected, stored, and then distributed when there is a need resulting from fire, domestic violence or natural disaster. Items include blankets, cooking utensils, pots/pans, and flatware.

Baby Blessings

"Starter kits" are provided to new moms who have nothing to use in the care of their newborn. The kits contain a diaper bag full of baby essentials as well as homemade booties and a homemade blanket.

Collaboration

We consistently collaborate and partner with other helping agencies and churches in our community so that we can offer the best possible help for our clients .

Cardboard

All of our cardboard is collected and given to Alders gate Enrichment Center, a work place for mentally and physically challenged adults.

Miscellaneous

There are services we can provide for our clients that may not be listed above. Since we are not a governmental organization we are not bound by strict, rigid guidelines, we can bend the rules, which are our own, to meet needs. Examples of services we have provided that would fall under misc. would be: Texas driver's license fee, Texas ID fee, bike repair for a transient, birth certificates. We try to be flexible within our means because we never know when we "may be entertaining angels unaware".
