Camp Shomria: A second home.

Led by experienced staff from North America and Israel, Camp Shomria is a great summer program for ages 8-15. It is an amazing experience in 117 acres of pristine woods.

The Shomria community is inclusive, intimate, open-minded, active, safe and above-all, fun.

Campers learn to build fires, lash sticks, and speak Hebrew. They debate politics, play basketball, and engage in community service programs with members of the Liberty, New York community. Most of all, children have fun and make their best friends in an environment that respects and cultivates each child's unique traits and abilities. Still, nobody can explain how wonderful Shomria is than the campers themselves. Read what they wrote.

  • Our motto is Jewish Youth: Redefined - we encourage your child to find a unique and personal connection to his or her community, Judaism, Israel, and world.
  • Your child will learn best when his or her curiosity is ignited. By playing special games, doing unique group-building exercises, and providing the best role model counselors, we get to the core of what your child loves to learn.
  • Your child deserves the care and respect of his or her peers. We are experts at making best friends.
  • We encourage your child to learn to take responsibility for the environment through outdoor activities, gardening, and helping to keep camp clean. By working to maintain the beauty of Shomria, we offer your child an opportunity to feel at home in Camp Shomria.
  • As a program of Hashomer Hatzair, we connect your child to a long and exemplary tradition of youth leadership and Jewish pioneers.

Safety and Staff

Camp Shomria's counselor staff have all grown up at Shomria. They have been trained rigorously to provide your child with the best possible educational experience in the safest possible way. They are supported by the adults who comprise our support staff - people with years of experience in youth education. Our Health Director is beloved by the campers and fully qualified to provide the best possible care in case of emergencies. Also, Camp Shomria is supervised by the New York State Department of Health, one of the strictest in the country. If you would like more information, contact director Tal Beery at (212) 627 2830 or Tal@HashomerHatzair.org.

Programs

This summer, Camp Shomria is offering one-week, two-week, three-week, four-week and six-week programs.

Our traditional program, for ages 9-15, is six-weeks long and broken into two, three week sessions. Each session is structured to provide the best experience for children attending both sessions or only one. First session is June 28 - July 19, and second session is July 19 - August 9.

We also offer a two-week program for 8-12 year olds, called Machane Kahol Lavan (Camp Blue and White). With a little more emphasis on learning conversational Hebrew through games and arts, it is a great opportunity to get a taste of camp for those not yet ready for longer programs. The two weeks are split into two sessions - first session is June 28 - July 5, and second session is July 5 - July 11.

This year for the first time we are offering a special environmental education program, EcoCamp. It is all the fun of camp coupled with four hours a day of trips and instruction from environmental experts in the area. Stay tuned for details. The one-week program will take place July 19 - July 26 and will be limited to thirteen applicants.

We are also very excited for our Bnei-Mitzvah program, for 12 and 13 year olds, who want to be involved in a unique progressive and intentional approach to becoming an adult in the Jewish community.

Our program is one of the most affordable you can find. See our Tuition Rates.
