THE POWER OF PRESENCE
Beverly Jordan
What does it mean to be present to the Divine and others? How do we allow ourselves to let go of agendas and assumptions to surrender to the dynamism of the moment? What is spiritual listening as a contemplative discipline? The Celtic and Quaker traditions offer practical and inspirational guidance; helping us be a powerful contributor of presense directly where we live. The format of the day will include personal reflection, prayer practices, teachings and group interaction.
Beverly has facilitated retreats for over 30 years internationally. She is a spiritual director, Eucharistic Minister and served in theater ministry prior to her vocation in hospice care.

FACETS OF LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE
J Michael Walker and Josie Broehm, MFT
La Virgen de Guadalupe is one of the most popular
personalities in spirituality today. Her appeal extends across a
wide spectrum, to touch (traditional and non-traditional)
Catholics and non-Catholics alike. To many she is the Virgin
Mary; for others she is a special blessing upon Mexicans and
Latinos/as in particular; still others see her as a goddess - an
earth goddess or pre-Colombian diosa in Eurocentric form.
She can countenance empathy, forgiveness, resistance, and/or
independence. Perhaps she is so multi-faceted, we see ourselves
reflected in her, and thus she includes us all.
Let's explore the special allure that the Virgin of Guadalupe
holds, and enfold ourselves into her special blessings.
A workshop with artist-author J Michael Walker, creator of
many innovative (and respectful) images of Guadalupe, as well
as the author-illustrator of the award-winning book, All the
Saints of the City of the Angels (Heyday Books, 2008).
Fee: $45 with lunch, $35 without lunch
$30 deposit with registration requested by December 4.

DANCE-PRAYER WORKSHOP: “Embracing Simplicity”
Alleluia Dance Theater with Stella Matsuda and Marti Ryan
Dance has long been an integral part of our Judaeo-Christian
heritage, to express what is deep within us, in praise and in
prayer. The new year is an opportunity to find ways to restore
balance and harmony in our lives. This workshop “Embracing
Simplicity” will focus on making a conscious decision to live
our lives from within, to liberate our spirit and be in a state of
grace. Together, creating a deep and personal prayer experience
through movement, music, scripture and meditation, we will
find the sacred in our everyday existence. There will also be
time of “letting go” through drumming. This one day workshop
is open to all - no dance training is required to participate. Wear
comfortable clothes to move with ease. Bring a drum if you
have one. (We will also provide some).
The Alleluia Dance Theater was incorporated in 1978, and is
dedicated to presenting our faith through movement.
Conducting the workshop are Stella Matsuda and Marti Ryan,
Founding Directors of Alleluia Dance Theater. Both are
professional teachers, dancers and choreographers.
Fee: $45 with lunch; $35 without lunch.
$10 deposit with registration requested before January 2.
