Mission

Vision

We are a people called to proclaim, with courage and boldness, a distinctive, yet fundamentally Anglican, vision. That vision, which defines the character of this Christian community, can be summarized as follows:

Grace is a community of faith who proclaims clearly and without apology the radically inclusive love of God. All are welcome here and all have a place at God's table. It is not a place that can be earned -- it is a place offered freely by God through God's free, unmerited gift of grace.

At Grace, we honor as an important value that is it is perfectly acceptable to hold widely divergent opinions about very important matters. We stand strongly and charitably on many sides of critical issues like war, human sexuality, and end-of-life matters. It would never occur to us that we should all agree. We find our unity not in doctrine or dogma or like-mindedness, but in the sacred waters of Holy Baptism which make us one in Christ.

We do not claim to hold the corner on Truth. We humbly acknowledge that there is always more to discover and to love about God.

We read Holy Scripture in a particular way which rejects literalism and proof-texting and invites serious historical and contextual study.

We are committed to inquiry. Questions are important here, and doubt, wondering, study, and reflection are seen as necessary to the development of a mature faith.

We believe that love of God and neighbor must be expressed in the generous giving of our time, talent, and treasure to those in need.

We believe that we are called to be faithful stewards of all that we are and of all the resources and gifts with which God has so generously and graciously blessed us. We must be good and faithful stewards of this fragile earth, our island home, which is our bounden duty to God and to those who come after us.

We who are the Church must be faithfully engaged in the work that God has given us to do - the work of reconciling all the world to God. Each Sunday we gather in community to worship - uniting ourselves with others to acknowledge the holiness of God, to hear and to respond to God's Word, to offer prayer, to be restored to right relationship with God through confession and absolution, and to be fed with the very presence of Jesus Christ. We gather as God's beloved yet blemished people. We come estranged from God and estranged from one another by our sins, and, gathered in community to worship God, we are restored, reconciled, and made whole again so that we may go forth from this unique community of faith to proclaim, witness, and serve the world in Christ's Name, proclaiming Christ and Christ's redeeming and radically inclusive Love - Love which is for you and for me and for all of God's precious children.
