Questions and Answers

Whom Do We Serve?

Girls Incorporated® programming is open to ALL girls, ages 6-18. We serve girls through girl communities developed at local schools or with partnering agencies, specialty workshops, parent/daughter workshops, advocacy symposiums and special events.

What Are Our Demographics?

  • We serve 500-1,000 girls annually

  • More than 73% are minorities

  • Approximately 43% live with a single parent or neither parent

  • Almost 65% come from families with an annual income of less than $25,000

What Makes Us Different?

  • Girls have long-term relationships with facilitators, mentors, and other girls in girl clubs, specialty workshops and parent/daughter workshops. Programs focus on gender equality. Major programs address math and science education, pregnancy and drug abuse prevention, media literacy, economic literacy, adolescent health, violence prevention, sports participation and leadership advocacy. Our nationally developed programs are the result of studies conducted by outside sources and the Girls Inc. National Resource Center.

  • Each girl develops her own unique set of skills. Program leaders work with each girl and show her how to build self-confidence and to advocate for girls issues with her family, in school and in her community. Programming is comprehensive, including modules that develop across four age groups, building on learning from one area to another. Girls Inc. develops research-based informal education programs that encourage girls to take risks and master physical, intellectual and emotional challenges.

Where Do We Provide Programs?

  • Girls Incorporated® programs are currently delivered at Vista High School, Alta Vista High School, Mission Middle School in Escondido and Boys and Girls Club of Vista. Additional sites are added based on staff availability, funding and need.

  • Specialty programs and Parent/Daughter Workshops are scheduled throughout the year in various locations throughout San Diego County. Be sure to check our event calendar regularly.

Who Delivers The Programs?

Programming is delivered by professionally trained facilitators. The most important aspect to our staff and volunteers is the way Girls Inc. touches the life of every girl, creating amazing and lasting outcomes.

Where Do We Get Funding?

Just like any nonprofit, grants, donations, fundraiser and fees. The largest percentage of funding comes from grants and private donors. We hold three annual fundraising events around the county to supplement unrestricted funds to reach more girls.
