| Girls Incorporated’s programs challenge participants to think critically about the messages they receive that may limit them from reaching their full potential. Girls Inc. participants have been challenged to take a proactive role in their future through the development of life skills such as:
Personal Development
- Girls Incorporated Programs- Interactive lessons based on the experiential learning cycle have provided students with critical life skills. Girls Inc. participants have engaged in activities relating to critically analyzing media messages and stereotypes, leadership, and healthy relationships.
Self-confidence
- Girls’ World Explosion- Members of Girls Inc. took part in a fashion show in the presence of 1,500 people at the California Center for the Arts Escondido. By modeling fashionable clothing before a live audience, girls demonstrated the attractiveness of regular girls. Not only did this boost members’ self-confidence, but it also provided audience members with realistic images of beauty.
Leadership
- California State University San Marcos Leadership Seminar- VHS Girls Inc. Club members attended a leadership conference by a world renowned speaker and author. By revealing the importance of effective leadership in any workplace, girls learned the value of the leadership skills they have developed through Girls Inc.
Mentoring
- Video in the Community Project- Members were partnered with local university students to create a video for GISDC. Through the creation of this video, girls learned to advocate for themselves and their peers. They were also given the opportunity to explore a local college campus, making it a familiar, less intimidating place. Lastly, during their interactions with college students, girls personally learned about college life and the importance of pursuing a higher education.
Goal setting
- Girls Incorporated Annual Luncheon- Girls attended an awards luncheon hosted by National Girls Inc. in Beverly Hills. Aside from personally meeting celebrities while window shopping on Rodeo Drive, girls were challenged to consider the opportunities available beyond their local communities. Additionally, girls considered how achievement may look in their own lives and the steps necessary to realize personal success.
Career Planning
- Girl Talk: Career Exploration Series- Girls are introduced to local, professional women. Monthly workshops include information on college and financial aid, professional opportunities, and making positive career choices.
Self Care
- Symposiums- With special emphasis on outside factors, Girls Inc. symposiums help youth maintain good physical and emotional health as well as personal safety.
