"When I was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 27, I was determined to stay at home for my final days. My friends here in Beaufort made this possible as they rallied around me with the medical care and abiding love I needed to make my death a journey, not a lonely event."

In 1977, a young local woman named Caroline Sue Quann died of cancer at age 31.
Determined to honor her wishes to be at home for her final days, her friends resolved to provide her with the companionship and medical care she deserved in order to die with grace and dignity. This marked the founding of the
FRIENDS of Caroline HOSPICE, then the first and only hospice in Beaufort County.

Now in our 28th year, we continue to foster those seeds of love and concern these fellow Beaufortonians planted. While other national hospice organizations have come to our community, we remain the only hospiceto offers all our services completely free of charge.

We are the only hospice in Beaufort that collects no money from our patients, their families, insurance companies, Medicare or Medicaid. In order to provide these services, we rely 100% on donations and gifts from individuals and organizations, and fundraising events.
