Food Bank of West Central Texas

Rural Distribution

The Food Bank of West Central Texas provides food to a service area of over 12,000 square miles. Some of our member agencies must travel 90 to 100 miles to pick up their orders. This is a huge problem because of the cost of fuel, the lack of vehicles or trailers to haul large quantities of food, and the shortage of manpower. With the donation of a tractor to pull our 50’ refrigerated trailer, the Food Bank was able to start making limited deliveries to one rural area. At this time, we are able to fill the truck about once a month and run a route to Brownwood, Comanche and Gorman. This is a tremendous help to our agencies in that area. The Food Bank is currently seeking funding to expand the rural distribution program so that all of our agencies will benefit from delivery to their front doors.
