Food Bank of West Central Texas

Food Drives

Food drives are critical to the Food Bank. Cash donations are equally important and are used to operate the Food Bank, pay for utilities to run our huge freezers and coolers and cover fuel and maintenance for our refrigerated trucks. For every $1 donation, the Food Bank can obtain 10 pounds of food through our affiliation with America's Second Harvest. Food drives make up about 20% of the total food that comes into the Food Bank.

  1. Any individual, business or organization may participate. Start early - you can begin by promotion your food (or fund) drive now! You can promote your drive in community and church bulletins, through local television, radio and newspaper, at grocery stores and other businesses.
  2. Have fun! Use cans as entry into a sporting event in lieu of tickets or hold a CAN struction sculpture contest among teams or groups of people.
  3. Have a central location to collect donated food. This will make it easier to load your food at the end of your drive. Assign one or two individuals to be responsible for financial contributions to the Food Bank.
  4. At the completion of your food drive, contact the Food Bank to schedule a drop off of your donated items. If your event gathers large amounts of food, arrangements may be made for the Food Bank to pickup your items. We will weigh the food and send a thank you so that your group or organization will know the impact of their efforts to feed the hungry.
