FEW Foundation’s Academic Scholarship Program
|
One of the purposes for which the Foundation is organized is to provide education and training opportunities to current, past and potential members of Federally Employed Women ("FEW").
Patricia Wolfe, Immediate Past Foundation President has observed, “As I traveled around the country and visited many Federal agencies, I was often asked what FEW was doing about the shortage of women in the science and technology fields. Because I didn’t have a ready answer, the dream of having a Foundation built around academic scholarships was born.”
FEW’s Foundation for Education and Training is being proactive – helping to develop a talented, qualified pool of future candidates. Grantham University, a 100% on-line university based in Kansas City, MO., was the first school to offer a full four-year scholarship, which includes all necessary books and software, to the Foundation. The scholarship program is open to FEW members and their immediate family members. We invite you to join FEW in offering others an opportunity to expand their knowledge in critical career fields.
FEW’s Foundation for Education and Training has awarded two four-year scholarships. The first went to Barbara Ballew from the Pacific Northwest Region in 2007. The second scholarship was to Melody Bigi from the Great Lakes Region in 2008.
In 2009, there were two two-year scholarships awarded to Judy Freeman, Northeast Region, and Jacqueline Wasik, Great Lakes Region. Congratulations, Judy and Jacqueline!

FEW Foundation Partnership with Grantham University and What it Means to You
|
Value of Education = Priceless
By: Johanna Altland, Grantham University
Have you been thinking about earning an undergraduate or graduate degree, but are nervous about the time it will take and the expense? The decision you make to enroll or not to enroll at a university could have a big impact on your future. Yes, going to school while working full-time and meeting the needs of your family is a huge responsibility, but the rewards of furthering your education are well worth it.
In today’s economy, continuing education is even more critical than ever before because despite the soaring unemployment rates, the demand for college graduates is still very strong. A high school education no longer guarantees you a “living wage.” An advanced degree and ongoing career training are the best ways to increase earning potential and job security.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2006 average annual income for someone with a bachelor’s degree was $48,724. The income for those with a master’s degree was $58,708. Those with a high school diploma only earned $30,316 on average. With a master’s degree, you could earn almost $30,000 more per year on average than a high school graduate. If you multiply that over a 40 year career, you could potentially make $1.2 million more in your lifetime.
Now, more than ever, it is easier and more convenient to pursue a college degree because of the many options that are available to you. Grantham University offers flexible, affordable 100% online degree programs that are designed with busy working adults in mind.
At Grantham, you control your education. Because there are no required log-in times, you can study and access your coursework when and where it is convenient for you. If you travel frequently for business, don’t worry, you can take your online classroom and coursework with you.
Grantham University offers online undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Business Management, General Studies, Computer Science, and other technology-related fields.
Members of Federally Employed Women (FEW) and their immediate families can take advantage of a special tuition rate of $250 per credit hour. Required textbooks and software are covered, at no additional cost to you, by a textbook and technology grant.
By continuing your education, you are giving yourself the opportunity to learn new skills and information that you can apply to your life and career. You may be able to put a price tag on a degree, but the value of an education is priceless.

FEW National Training Program
|
FEW conducts a National Training Program (NTP) each year that attracts approximately 1,800 attendees from across the U. S. Attendees represent most Federal agencies. As human resource management is reshaped, government agencies are recruiting to manage and retain the best people to meet mission critical needs. It becomes increasingly important to ensure employees have the skills necessary to meet these challenges.
The Foundation will support the 2009 NTP in Orlando, FL. As its financial base grows, the Foundation plans to expand its scholarship program to assist FEW Regions with sending members to RTPs and NTPs.
