I got Viral Encephalitis at age 4. I am now 14. I had trouble walking and talking-- I was paralyzed. I still have speech problems even 10 years later. I have trouble swallowing, so I sometimes drool. I feel like a regular teenager, but its hard to go to a new school where you know nobody and can't talk to them and have to use a computer to talk for you.

Subject:  herpes shingle virus in the brain
They removed part of the left temporal lobe, thinking it was a tumor. It was herpes shingles surrounded by t-cells (trying to keep it contained). It was taken out Dec. 2006, I'm a lucky gal.

Thank you so much for creating this website. I came down with Encephalitis about 3 months ago, and am already out of this hospital and back to work (thank you Piedmont Hospital!) I still and much more emotional than I used to be and lights bother me more, but I can do my job. It feels very good to be able to connect with other people who understand what it has been like to go through this. Thank you so much! -Heather

Great work Wendy and Ingrid. Thanks for getting this website up and running. Encephalitis is such a rare illness - often misdiagnosed, and misunderstood. It's great to have sites like this to share information and raise awareness. Sending hugs to you both, Jensibell (English lady and E-survivor. Diagnosed Jen 2005, aged 26)

It is the growing of a new Era .... I feel that the wonderful support brought here at the newly joined Encephalitis Global by two wonderful ladies is remarkable !! As a caregiver, I have always felt the need to be with others that understand the sometimes awful effects of encephalitis. I thank you both for starting this website.
