                                                      Outreach Advocacy

Victims of relationship violence or sexual assault can have many needs. Community
resources can be difficult to access or understand. Individuals who have been assaulted
often have a difficult time asking for the assistance they need. Further, these individuals
are often under a great deal of stress and their normal coping skills are ineffective in a
crisis. Outreach Advocates can provide needed support, assistance, and follow-up
when those who have been victimized need it the most. Outreach Advocates provide
information and support services to victims of relationship violence and sexual assault
in the community.

Services provided by Outreach Advocates include, but are not limited to:
  • Referral for protective shelter
  • Assistance with basic needs
  • Crisis intervention
  • Referral for professional counseling
  • Emergency transportation
  • Social service referrals
  • Legal advocacy support
  • Peer support group
  • Transitional Housing (for those who qualify)
  • Court Accompaniment
  • Assistance with CVC
  • Assistance with protective order applications
Outreach Advocates can meet with victims at any safe location in the community or
at one of Friends of the Family's outreach centers.

If you are working with a victim or relationship violence or sexual assault who needs to
speak with someone, please call out 24-hour crisis hotline at 1.800.572.4031.
The person answering the crisis line will contact an Outreach Advocate or a member
or the Relationship Violence Response Team
