History, Mission & Board

History

CSVNP was organized in 1986 by a small group of members of the Court Street United Methodist Church (CSUMC)   (Click here  to  see their WEB site)  to provide housing for persons with low or moderate income. CSUMC had considered constructing a new church building on the 12.5 acres but after much deliberation, decided to refurbish its present structure.  Initial financial support for start up came from CSUMC & St. Joseph Hospital.  In 1989 CSVNP received approval as a 501 c) 3 nonprofit corporation from the Internal Revenue Service.

CSV East, a 150 unit Senior Apartment building was opened in 1990. It offers affordable rents for seniors age 55 or older and features 1 & 2 bedroom apartments. CSV West, a 106 unit Senior Apartment building was opened in 1993, offers rents affordable to all income levels – low, moderate & market rate and features 1 & 2 bedroom apartments.  Both developments were financed through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s Low Income Housing Tax Credit program.

Avon Park is a 56 unit townhouse development opened in 1995 two blocks from the CSV Senior Campus.  It offers affordable rents for families of all income levels, low, moderate and market rate and features 2 & 3 bedroom town-homes with attached garages. The Michigan State Housing Development Authority also financed this development.

CSV Management Corp. was organized in 1994 as a subsidiary of CSVNP to manage all of the rental properties sponsored by CSVNP and now also manages the properties of other nearby property owners.   Also in 1994 CSVNP began a neighborhood support program for the 4 neighborhood associations closest to the downtown Flint area.  There are approximately 2400 housing units these neighborhoods. With the assistance of an initial grant from the LISC Americorp program, a neighborhood program director was hired to assist the homeowner associations in the Central Park, Fairfield Village, Grand Traverse and Carriage Town areas. That program flourished with the generous support of the C. S. Mott Foundation over a 10 year period.

In 1995, with generous support from a local foundation, CSVNP moved its operations into a Tudor style house in the historical district at 727 East St. The building has an attached auditorium ideal for neighborhood meetings and other functions.   Click on the year to view a list of  Accomplishments.  2005  2006   2007
