2006 Highlights

 
  1. Grants.
    •    Operational/Capacity Building: We again received generous support from the C.S. Mott Foundation, McFarlan Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Flint,the B.E.S.T. program and several individual donors to support our operations and build our capacity to provide more and better services.
    •    Community Development Grants: We received grants from the City of Flint CDBG & HOME programs (Berridge Place & exterior home repair), the Ruth Mott Foundation (exterior home rehab & beatification), the Community Foundation of Greater Flint (Court Street Commercial Façade program).

 

  1. CSV was actively involved in our partnership with the Genesee County Landbank to rehab the Berridge Hotel into loft apartments. During the year we purchased the hotel with a grant from the City of Flint, organized the corporations to develop the project, our CSV Management Corp. managed the Hotel for 3 months and assisted in the relocation of the 80 guests living there. We participated with the architects designing the project and set-up the financial systems for operations of the organization.

 

  1. CSV participated in the second cohort of Flint area non profits in the B.E.S.T. program designed to help build the capacity of Flint area non profit organizations. CSV underwent a rigorous strategic and technical assessment by independent consultants. In Phase 2, we received grant funds to implement recommendations for improving our computer and phone systems, added needed computer software and engaged planning consultants to initiate a strategic planning process to update our long range plane and fund development function.

 

  1. CSV initiated and distributed its first two issues of a community newsletter to a mailing list of over 500 individuals and organizations.

 

  1. CSV worked more closely with the Grand Traverse District Neighborhood Association and its Land Use Committee to create a new relationship for CSV to implement development & rehab strategies defined the GTDNA Neighborhood Plan in conjunction with GTDNA.

 

  1. CSV West applied for inclusion in the MSHDA demonstration project to use Medicaid waivers to pay for Affordable Assisted Living services for low income residents of the Flint metro area. Announcement of the final selections is expected in 2007.

 

  1. The Board of Directors updated Conflict of Interest Policy statements and for the first time conducted a Board self evaluation process.

 

  1. Substantial resources were committed to a process of refinancing the CSV Senior apartment buildings.
