Court Street Village Non Profit Housing Corp.

2005 Highlights

 

1.      Grants.

·        Operational/Capacity Building:  We received generous support from the C.S. Mott Foundation, Bishop Trust, McFarlan Foundation and several individual donors to support our operations and build our capacity to provide more services. Also the CFGF awarded CSV an energy grant to replace 6 badly deteriorated windows in the historical home that serves as our headquarters on East St.

·        Community Development Grants:  We received grants from the City of Flint CDBG program and the Ruth Mott Foundation (exterior home rehabilitation to correct code violations), The Community Foundation of Greater Flint (rehabilitation of the Stockton Historical House & Springdale Hardware and inter-change beautification).

 

2.      CSV partnered with the Flint Cultural Center to make un-sold seats at various venues available to low income seniors at Court Street Village and other senior apartments in the area.

 

3.      CSV partnered with the Kettering sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha, to sponsor a math & science day camp for girls 9-12 years old living in the Fairfield Village Neighborhood for a curriculum designed by Kettering University.

 

4.      CSV has started a newsletter to keep the public informed about our goals and accomplishments and help generate more support for the organization.  We are currently waiting for approval of a US Postal Service Bulk Mail permit for distribution.

 

5.      The CSV WEB site (WWW.courtstreetvillage.orgis now up and running.

 

6.      The CSV Board has named our headquarters the “DORIS SAIN COMMUNITY HOUSE” in honor of Doris Sain. Doris retains the position of President of the Board and Corporation while Jerry Vogler was appointed Feb 1 to be the full time Executive Director.  An appropriate sign is being prepared for installation.

 

7.      CSV is considering joining the Genesee Landbank in a project to purchase the Berridge Hotel and turn it into apts/condos in order to remove a community nuisance from the Carriage Town Neighborhood.

 

8.      CSV is also considering joining with the Landbank and Carriage Town Neighborhood Association in a project to do in-fill housing on 20 vacant lots in the Stone Street area.

 

9.      Discussions with MSHDA are continuing about the refinancing of CSV East as soon as Pepperidge Farms/Campbell Soup exit the partnership.

 

10.  CSV Management Co. worked with ADP to prepare a new employee handbook and an employee performance appraisal system was put in place.

 

11. The positions of Activity Director and Leasing Manager were recreated and filled by the CSV Management Corp.

 

12.  Board policies on Record Retention & Protection of Whistleblowers were adopted.

  

13. CSV was approved for a United Way grant to participate in the BEST assessment & capacity building program for Genesee county non profit organizations sponsored by the Mott Foundations and the CFGF.  CSV also was invited by LISC to participate in the Capacity Mapping program for non profit community development organizations.
