Cornerstone Christian Academy

Anthony Campolo, PhD

Tony Campolo’s vision and passion for poor and hurting people, especially children, is evident in his dedication to Cornerstone Christian Academy. It will come as no surprise to those familiar with Tony, that when he saw the vicious cycle of poverty and decay confronting the Kingsessing neighborhood, just a few trolley stops from his boyhood home, he had to act! From that love for others came Cornerstone Christian Academy. Since our earliest days Tony has been our greatest champion and a loyal supporter.

Tony is currently the professor emeritus of Sociology at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pennsylvania, where he has served for more than 30 years. Founder of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education/Tony Campolo Ministries (EAPE/TCM), Dr. Campolo has provided the leadership to create, nurture and support programs for "at-risk" children in cities across the United States and Canada, and has helped establish schools and universities in several developing countries. Dr. Campolo is an ordained minister, and has served American Baptist Churches in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and is presently recognized as an associate pastor of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in West Philadelphia. Tony and his wife Peggy have two children and four grandchildren.

James M. Sweet, Esq.

Jim Sweet has played an instrumental role in guiding Cornerstone since our early days. His visionary resolve with which the Academy was founded has proved a blessing on many occassions. He has been a source of encouragement and strength as the Academy has struggled to grow and impact young lives. We are thrilled that he has been with us since day one!

In 2001 Jim was appointed chairman of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, a major Philadelphia based law firm at which he has served his entire 26-year career. Jim graduated from Wheaton College in 1967 with a degree in History and from law school at the College of William & Mary in 1973 where he was articles editor for the William and Mary Law Review. Between college and law school, he served as an officer in the United States Navy and also spent a year in Australia where he was the assistant registrar at LaTrobe University in Melbourne. Jim and his wife Joyce have three children.
