What is Choices?

Choices in Community Giving (CCG or Choices) is a nonprofit federated fundraising organization that enables ease, and promotes choice, in workplace charitable giving. We are committed to member organization involvement in the day-to-day policy and work of Choices, to diversity of organizations that reflect the communities our members serve, and most importantly, to absolute donor choice in the designation of donations.

We are a democratic member organization. Every member organization has a representative on the CCG Board of Directors and has an equal say in the policies and governance of Choices (an outside board does not arbitrarily decide what they perceive to be best for the community and allocate funds accordingly).

CCG believes in the value of diversity and individual philanthropy across a wide range of missions. We do not exclude particular organizations for any political, social or economic reason.

All individual designated donations are passed on to the designated organization (less pre-approved fees). We do not set quotas or limit funds targeted at specific community programs. We do not encourage giving to Choices or to a “pool” of funds for restricted use. Donor choice is our motivation.

Fundamentals of Choices Membership:

  1. We assess a low annual fee to members and levy a low administrative percentage. We have donated office space and run at a minimal cost to ensure all donations taken in are passed along to the designated organization.

  2. Choices' focus is on serving the needs of our member organizations, not on duplicating services in the community. We do not run programs, our member organizations run direct programs. We do not presume to judge the needs of the community. Donors “vote” with their donations.

  3. All of our records are open to the public, except those that would violate the privacy of our donors or employees. We provide all members with audited financial statements annually and make all records of governance or financial transactions open for scrutiny. The full board of member organizations determines our financial practices and provides oversight.

What is Workplace Giving?

Workplace giving is the opportunity employers/employees have to donate to designated nonprofit organizations through a campaign, usually conducted in the fall of each year. Individuals, as well as businesses, can make contributions through cash payments, credit card and the ever-popular payroll contribution (deduction).

People pledge to their selected nonprofit organizations because of a passion they have for the work those organizations do. The organization may be concerned about the environment. Or maybe the employee has a friend or relative who has had a serious illness.  They look for an organization that works to find comfort, and possibly a cure, and offers needed financial support. Others may be very intent on education programs outside/inside of schools. Human and civil rights have long been a passion for many people who will pledge a donation to a rights organization. A great number of individuals receive good feelings when donating to organizations that deal in human services and animal care.

Choices consists of over 35 nonprofit agencies whose mission may be in the areas of education, environmental, health and human rights. Offering our federation as a choice for employees is good for an organization as well as for the image of the company offering a workplace giving campaign.  In this way, member organizations are connected to more people in Idaho and the employer/employee contemplating a donation is made aware of more organizations with important missions.

Committing to a high visibility giving campaign creates new and creative ways to team build within a company. Charitable payroll contirbution (deduction) is an employee benefit, one that a company can offer employees without major cost.

Choices member groups provide company employees with volunteer opportunities as well as valuable information about the services these groups provide the community. Choices in Community Giving is a major key to additional exposure and funding for nonprofit organizations.
