The Children's Museum in Easton

Discover how much fun the worlds of art and science can be with these traveling programs designed to meet the developmental stages of young learners, in pre-school and kindergarten! 

The Programs

• Art Exploration
Roll up your sleeves and prepare to enter the creative zone. This workshop is 100% hands–on for each participant. Children will explore various art mediums to create several take-home treasures. Exposure to a variety of materials and freedom to create are emphasized. This is a great intro to the creative arts!

Painter’s Day
L
eave behind the world of paint-by-number and enjoy the freedom to swirl, stroke and blot beautiful color cross your own canvas. Young artists will be encouraged to try different types of paints and brushes in a truly creative and relaxed atmosphere.

Print Shop
D
iscover the magic of printing. Beyond stamps and inkpads there are many different ways to create prints. In this workshop participants will try creating their own “stamps” and use several techniques to creative wrapping paper, writing paper or frameable art.

Music in Motion
Children will explore the world of music and movement. This program is designed to enhance a child’s physical and social skills while participating in sing-a-longs and creative dance. Music and dance props will be introduced. Participants will strengthen listening skills, learn to respond to musical cues and recognize varying dynamics. They will also experience moving to tempo, recognizing rhythm and exploring the use of space.

Lab Learners
An intro to science using a hands-on approach. Children will enjoy making simple science discoveries and start to build a scientific vocabulary. This class will encourage strong scientific methodology which can be carried over to any discipline (problem solving skills). Children will be encouraged to make predictions and try variables. Choose from: senses, water, weather, building & engineering, and bubbles.

Math Marvels
Co
me explore the world of math through hands-on learning. This workshop enables children to manipulate math materials and encourage basic pre-school math concepts. Teachers will find our approach refreshing to energize and support the work they are already doing in the classroom. Key fundamental math principles will be covered using literature, math manipulatives, art projects or group games. Concepts include: patterning, grouping, graphing, simple addition, subtraction or division, fractions or classifying.

Sounds of Science
D
iscover the world of science through music. Through musical exploration participants will learn about sound, sound waves, echo, differences in sound i.e. acoustic vs. electric sounds, human voice and authentic instruments. Using musical games and movement activities this program helps develop communication, physical and social skills. Concepts include: tempo, beat, tone, style, sound sources and dynamics.

The Museum is grounded in an educational philosophy that sees play and hands-on experience as the keys to stimulating curiosity and motivating learning in children.
Our outreach programs are geared for groups in
pre-school and kindergarten, and our fun and energetic staffers engage the children in various activities. The skills of predicting, estimating, observing and analyzing—so fundamental in a child’s development—are delivered in a fresh, new way. The opportunity for creative expression is encouraged by our professional early education staff.

Creative arts workshops are designed to support the MA Arts Curriculum Frameworks. Science & math workshops are designed to support the MA Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Frameworks.
