Children's Restoration Network's

Adopt-a-Shelter Program

If you really want to make an ongoing difference in the lives of some kids, you, or your organization, should consider our Adopt-a-Shelter program. Although the Adopt-a-Shelter originally focused on Christmas we have now expanded it to include year-round activities such as our Spring Fling and Back 2 School programs. Other activities are limited only by your imagination. Outings have included trips to the Zoo, Fernbank, the High Museum, Hawks and Thrasher games, bowling and skating activities, fishing trips and cookouts. You can Adopt-a-Shelter for a year or for one event. You can "adopt" a home with as few as 6 kids or as many as one hundred. Many people have experienced the satisfaction of getting to know some of these great kids, and becoming a positive part of some children's lives. Below is a brief description of how the program works at Christmas.

Each year Children's Restoration Network (CRN) begins the holiday season by launching its annual Twelve Days of Caring Campaign, which provides toys, gifts, clothes, and holiday parties for over 2,000 homeless children living in metro area shelters and group homes. An adjunct of this campaign is the Adopt-a-Shelter Program whereby businesses, church groups, schools, and individuals are invited to "Adopt a Shelter" in order to brighten the holiday of a selected group of children. Each shelter provides CRN with a list of its children including names, age, gender, clothing sizes, and gift wishes. The number of children residing in these facilities varies from as few as five up to approximately fifty each. If you wish you and your group can deliver the gifts and have parties with the kids. Parties can be as simple as cookies and juice to elaborate affairs with Santa and his elves and a fancy catered (or homemade meal) See first hand the kids that you have bought the gifts for and see the joy on their faces when they see their names on the gifts. This is a tremendous chance for groups and families to reach out and touch the lives of these kids directly and in person. You might just find this to be your best Christmas ever. This year's program will commence on December 1st and continue until December 24.

Here's how you and your group can help:
  • Decide the number of children your group can provide gifts for.
  • Purchase gifts mentioned on that child's wish list and individually wrap each gift.
  • (Optional) Deliver the gifts to a selected shelter by December 23rd or CRN can arrange for pick up and delivery.
  • (Optional) Treat the shelter's children with a party (cake and ice cream perhaps).

Your group may participate by choosing one, some, or all of the details outlined above. Your partnership with CRN is vital to the success of this program and will ensure that these children will have a happy holiday season without the worry of wondering if Santa knows where they live.
