  PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 12-16

Each youth who participates in this program becomes involved in the community. Youth are taking action and control by volunteering in an after school program or by heading out to Springfield to lobby for a legislative bill. They prepare themselves for their future through a variety of activities and workshops that they decide upon; the youth are able to raise money for their field trips and camping retreats through grassroots fundraising. The youth participate in art, sports, group meetings, workshops, tutoring, and so much more. Through their commitment to Centro Romero and the teen program, the youth are striving for great changes while creating a better future for themselves and their community.

Our program also offers Latino youth from the community the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that are created by themselves. We work in collaboration with several agencies througout Chicago’s Uptown and Edgewater Neighborhoods: Cambodian Association, Bosnian Association, Chinese Mutual Aid, Ethiopian Association, and Vietnamese Association. Our mission is to create a safe space for diverse immigrants and refugee youth, to develop friendship while learning about their own cultures and the cultures of others, and to build leadership skills and responsibilities, to learn, get to know, and respect different cultures. We also want to give them a voice so that they can be leaders and work together to make positive change in their community.
