LEGAL DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
This program offers the following volunteer positions:

Legal Assistants: No experience or special qualifications required. Fluency in Spanish and English is helpful. Works under direct attorney supervision on all types of family immigration matters and at all phases of case preparation. Tasks include document and evidence collection, analysis , and organization; application preparation; exhibir assembly; office and filing tasks; client correspondence if language skills permit.

Translators: Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in Spanish and English. Must be over 21 and a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident. Some tasks require availability during weekday mornings and early afternoons. Contact the attorney or accredited representative directly

Law Student Interns: Must be currently enrolled in Law School, 1L, 2L or 3L. Must be a PILI Fellow candidate or full grant or Federal Work Study candidate, or willing and able to volunteer. Certain practicum class externships will be considered. Fluency in Spanish and English preferred. Works under attorney supervision on all types of family immigration matters and at all phases of case preparation. Tasks include client correspondence and interviews; government agency interaction; preparation of applications, petitions, motions, briefs, indices, and other documents; evidence and document procurement, analysis and compilation; legal and factual research assignments; file and case maintenance.
- Pro Bono Attorneys: Must be licensed. Generally, CENTRO ROMERO remains attorney of record, unless the pro bono attorney is an immigration practitioner. May be assigned one case, usually either NACARA suspension of deportation case or a VAWA self-petitioner case.
