CENTRO ROMERO IS A BIA RECOGNIZED
NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
CENTRO ROMERO has been granted Agency Recognition by the United States Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), under its regulations published in 8 C.F.R. Section 292.2. A not-for-profit organization so recognized by the BIA may apply, on behalf of its qualified non-attorney staff-members, for accreditation. If the BIA grants partial accreditation to a non-attorney employee of a BIA Recognized organization, the employee can represent persons before the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS). If the BIA grants full accreditation to a non-attorney employee of a BIA Recognized organization, the employee can represent persons before the USCIS, and also before the Immigration Court and before the BIA.
BIA Recognized organizations are therefore publicly accountable, somewhat in the same way that licensed attorneys are, for its practice of immigration law and the legal services provided.
CENTRO ROMERO’s Legal Department staff includes a licensed Attorney and a BIA Full Accredited Representative and two more BIA Partial Accredited paralegals. Along with staff Legal Assistants, and owing to an enormous contribution of time and skill by professional and community volunteers, the LALAS Program has earned positive outcomes and has witnessed real changes in peoples’ lives.
