Alderman Patrick O’Connor - 40th Ward
Patrick J. O'Connor has been Alderman of the 40th Ward since 1983, was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1979, and currently is the chairman of the City Council Committee on Education and Child Development and the current vice chairman of the Finance Committee. Under his leadership, the 40th Ward has greatly improved. Recent examples are the creation a library and a police station and the replacement of several motels that were centers for illegal activities and community eyesores.
Ald. O’Connor is active in youth, education, and family issues with local and national organizations and is a member of many organizations including the City Club of Chicago, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Irish Fellowship, and the Kiwanis Club. A graduate of Loyola University Chicago (both bachelor’s and law degrees), he is has been a member of its Lakeshore Campus Advisory Council since 2003. He is also a current member of the Chicago Early Learning and Literacy Council, the Constituent Advisory Board for the Consortium on Chicago School Research, and the Northwest Chicago Division of the American Cancer Society.
Alderman O’Connor has been an active supporter of two programs of Centro Romero: the Youth Program and Domestic Violence Program. For these efforts, Centro Romero is pleased to present the Community Service Award to Ald. Patrick J. O’Connor.
