| Local Cancer Support Network Changes Name
AUSTIN, TX -- August 21, 2007 -- CanCare Austin announced today that it is has changed its name to Cancer Connection. After operating under the previous name since its inception in 2004, members of the nonprofit organization feel this name more accurately reflects their vision of ensuring that no one in the Austin area has to face cancer alone.
Cancer Connection provides emotional, spiritual and practical support to diagnosed individuals at any stage of the cancer experience by connecting them with a survivor of the same type of cancer. This unique peer-to-peer support is also offered to any caregiver/family member who would like to be paired with someone who has served in a similar role. Through local support groups and an assortment of educational classes, Cancer Connection provides additional sources of encouragement and empowerment to individuals and family members who are struggling with this disease. Its volunteers are offered meaningful opportunities for service including one-on-one mentoring, hospital visitation and outreach to patients in oncology center infusion rooms. By connecting cancer patients with the friendly face of a survivor, volunteers convey a message of hope through shared experience.
“We are thrilled that Cancer Connection continues to join forces with many wonderful organizations in the Austin community, most recently with the Seton Medical Network,“ says Rev. Dr. Karen Greif, breast cancer survivor and co-founder of the former CanCare Austin. “And we feel that Cancer Connection is the perfect name for an organization that connects individuals facing cancer to the services and resources they need to survive and thrive during and after their cancer experience.”
