The event will consist of a full day of activities, starting with opening remarks at 11 a.m. by nationally known University of Texas baseball coach, Augie Garrido. The tournament will be played in a modified scramble format consisting of 18 five-person teams, with one baseball celebrity in each team. The current line up of athletes includes several high-profile baseball stars such as Baseball Hall of Fame performer, Robin Yount and Texas Hall of Fame inductee, Larry Dierker. Alan Foster, Dave Roberts, Ken Boswell, "The Mad Hungarian" Al Hrabosky,Tom Pagnozzi, Pat Zachry, Brooks Kieschnick, and Dale Sveum, who all had long and productive major league careers, will also participate in the tournament. From a local perspective, Keith Moreland, currently the radio voice of Texas Longhorn football and baseball, will be playing that day. Also Calvin Schiraldi, Spike Owen, Bruce Ruffin, Greg Swindell, Kirk Dressendorfer, and Jim Gideon - baseball celebrities with local Texas athletics roots - will tee up as well. Sports anchor for local KXAN station, Roger Wallace, as well as Gale Gilbert, will also hit the green.
We will also be getting commitments from other ex-players and some of today's stars too as the day of the tournament approaches. Again, one celebrity will be assigned to play with each team, so all players will have an opportunity to interact with these and other sports stars!
The tournament will close with a banquet and awards ceremony hosted by Keith Moreland complete with a silent aucton fundraiser and an opportunity for celebrity autographs and pictures. Valuable prizes will be awarded to the top teams and individuals for distinct achievements such as the longest drive and closest to the pin. Hole-in-one prizes will be awarded on each of the four par-three holes and include a 2009 Cadillac CTS and a 2009 Cadillac Escalade courtesy of Covert Cadillac; a 2008 Supra 21V Launch wakeboard boat courtesy of South Austin Marine; and a customized "Bobber" motorcycle courtesy of Texas Custom Choppers.
