Lloyd Smalley and Lillian Weiss
January 25, 1989
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Lloyd Smalley and Lillian Weiss, lifelong companions, were killed in a fire started when police threw a flash grenade at their apartment during a botched drug raid. Police, who sought to arrest their houseguests, made no attempt to rescue the elderly couple. Police claimed not to know they were present, although officers had met them during a visit to the home 24 hours earlier.
