Our first two conatiners were delivered in the fall of 2005. The third container was shipped in the fall of 2006.
Some of the medical goods will be shared with the city of Aralsk, further north in the Kyzylorda Oblast. That city is making a remarkable recovery, a story in itself, as the Aral sea is now filling up again. The city when we visited there in 2005 was 60 miles from the sea. Between the city and the shore were rusting hulks of fishing trawlers keeled over in the sandy desert; camels were grazing nearby!
Our work continues to build goodwill between the nations of Kazakhstan and the USA. We are very proud of the progress that this new nation is making economically and politically in making a better life for its people.
Your participation in our work is invited! If you are a medical professional and would like to lend your expertise to training your counterparts in Kazakhstan, you may find it rewarding to go with us. Your costs would be transportation related; your housing and meals would likely be provided once you are in Kyzylorda.
