Well Drilling Project
Cost
Acquire land (granted to church) $100 (fees)
Drill well and install hand pump $2,500
Well Use Training
The community is also taught about the importance of keeping animals away from the well pad. Women and children are taught how to use the hand pump to ensure maximum life span. They are taught to keep clean water vessels set apart from other uses. Great stress is placed on keeping the vessels clean by setting them down in clean places, pouring water from vessels instead of dipping hands into the vessels, washing lids for vessels that drop on the ground, and rinsing out vessels before putting in clean water.

Sanitation Project
Latrine Building
Digging a latrine can significantly increase the health of a community. In some areas the “latrines” being used are simply a hole in the ground with two poles for balance. In other areas a wood/tree limb platform puts people in danger of falling into the latrine pit, because termites are active in eating away at the wood. Sanitation platforms made of concrete installed on the floor of latrines are an improvement from no platform or wooden platforms. $1,800
Sanitation Training
Sanitation trainings partner teachers and members of local women’s groups in how to promote sanitation and hygienic behaviors in schools and communities through participatory learning activities. Women and children’s groupsare the largest groups within the community. Primary schools are good places for the trainings to take place. It is a normal gathering place for learning and trainers see the conditions in which schoolteachers work and students learn. Methodology includes participatory lessons where participants and facilitators interacted and learned together. Favorite activities include creating songs, poetry, dancing, drama, and demonstrations of good sanitation practices such as hand washing. Students are encouraged to share what they about learn about sanitation and hygiene behaviors with family and friends. A simple container with water can be hanging from a tree limb to allow proper hand washing. Life Water, out of California, and SIFAT, in Alabama, have curriculum and training volunteers can take to prepare for this project.
Evangelism/Discipleship Projects
Please choose from the options below according to the size, interests, and talents of team.
Showing Jesus Film
By Provision has equipment, team needs to provide DVD of Jesus Film and/or other Christian films in San or Bushmen language. The showings would be at night in the open air using a generator. By Provision will arrange for translators to be on hand. Team members invite people to come from the community, set up the film, set up seating, welcome and direct attendees, help gather contact information from those who want follow-up, control the crowd, stop the film halfway through to inform there will be an invitation at the end of the film and a gift to everyone who stays through the end of the film. Church leaders will follow up with new believers.
Team must provide payment for translators ($15 USD per day/per translator), gifts (candy/tract) for attendees, and Bibles/New Testaments for new believers.
Back Yard Bible School/Vacation Bible School
BYBSVBS is conducted in the afternoons during weekdays and Saturday or Sunday morning depending on team’s schedule. By Provision will arrange for translators. Team must bring most supplies needed and send money and list to By Provision at least a month in advance to purchase items available in Namibia. Translators must be paid $10 USD per day. By Provision will arrange for a church location for a nominal fee. Most churches will not charge anything, though some will charge for cleaning and set up.
Suggested Team Member Assignments:
Bible story
Music (provide words and pictures for children to read along, hard copy)
Craft/Memory Verse
Snack/vitamins/meds if needed
Prayer (include registration, photo taking, gifts)
Leader/Coordinator
Sports
The favorite sport in Namibia is soccer. Games can be held in the afternoons during weekdays, anytime Saturday, and Sunday afternoons depending on team’s schedule. By Provision will arrange for translators. By Provision can purchase soccer balls if money is sent at least a month.
Any “uniforms” (same color tee-shirts or real uniforms), soccer attire would be greatly appreciated by participants. Team must include a prayer before game and a half-time Bible study. Translators must be paid ($15 USD per day/per translator).
Team should purchase in Namibia drinks (water or cool drink and snack-peanuts) for themselves and players.
By Provision will arrange for a church location for a nominal fee. Most churches will not charge anything, though some will charge for cleaning and set up.
Music
If you have a team member that plays guitar or other non-electrical instrument, please bring it. Email lyrics to the songs to By Provision so copies can be made ahead of time. Also bring markers to make posters with words to the songs you wish to teach. Please include pictures to make it easier to “read”, most people are illiterate. If you can bring a recording of the songs, we have a battery operated CD player you can use. Once in Namibia, purchase large poster board to print the words to the songs you wish to teach. Songs are more readily learned if they have motions to go with them. This is true for adult learners also. In Africa choreography or movement of some sort to accompany songs is expected. Teach the songs in English. A translator can be provided to make sure everyone knows what they are signing. Translators must be paid ($15 USD per day/per translator).
By Provision will arrange for a church location for a nominal fee. Most churches will not charge anything, though some will charge for cleaning and set up.
English Classes
Team must bring materials they want to use. Please relate your lessons to Bible stories or sharing the Gospel message. Copies can be made in Namibia. By Provision can make available a CD player, video player, and projector.
Other supplies such as paper, pens, markers, and scissors can be purchased ahead of time in Namibia. Send By Provision the list of what you want and the money to cover the costs.
If the team wants to work with a particular age group or knowledge level, let us know. Children are available every afternoon. Most parents are available at night.
A fun way to teach English is to have an evangelistic craft project (Good News bracelets/painter’s hats/necklaces). Have the participants memorize the verses in English. They are quick oral learners!

Young Mothers
By Provision has baby clothes and other baby items for teams to distribute to young mothers. Most young mothers will come to a “seminar” or “work shop” if the team chooses topics related to health, raising successful children, or nutrition. Regardless of the topic the team chooses, make sure to refer to the Bible during the class. When registering the attendees get the names and ages of their pre-school children. During the week go through what is available and make packages for each mother. Have a few extras made for last day only attendees. On the last day plan a “graduation.”
By Provision has a certificate for team members to make out for each attendee. Team members need to bring film for the Polaroid camera to take pictures with graduates. Team members give packages to each graduate.

Sewing/Needle Work
Needle work projects include teaching knitting/crochet, providing the materials, doing a Bible study in conjunction with project, whether in town or in the bush. In 2008 we will receive treadle machines for sewing projects in the bush. It is also possible for a team to purchase electric sewing machines for an in town project. The key to this project are the team members.
By Provision will customize the project to the interest level of the team. This project provides basis for a micro business.
Other Ideas Are Welcomed
The needs are endless in Africa and the people appreciate your help. By Provision is more than willing to arrange for projects you are particularly interested in or able to do.
