Mission Statement
Breaking the Chain Foundation Sponsoring Program links youth between the ages of six and sixteen with caring adult sponsors for the purpose of monetarily rendering support to assist these children through their difficult circumstances.
Target Population
Youth between the ages of six and sixteen who have no more than two juvenile offenses and who reside in the District of Columbia. Youth must also have at least one parent or guardian who is incarcerated or under correctional supervision and is not in imminent danger of hurting him/herself or another person.
Special Program Components
As a faith-based program, the sponsoring program has a charitable base that sponsors can use as part of financially supporting a relationship with the younger person.
Program Goals
♦ To increase financial support for the youth ♦ To detour youth from criminal involvement ♦ Reduce the occurrence of delinquent and deviant behaviors ♦ To increase youth participation in program activities
Frequency and Duration of Contact
The Sponsors will not have any contact with the sponsee but will receive a picture and profile of the youth. The sponsor will financially support a youth by donating twenty-five ($25.00) or ($50.00) dollars once per month for a minimum of a one-year commitment. Sponsors will receive a quarterly financial status letter on how funds were used for the sponsee.
