Events

We have several fundraising events throughout the year that have become a staple for our agency, raising about one-third of the necessary revenue for our mentoring programs.  These events are a wonderful way to support mentoring in our community while having a great time!  They are:

BIG Night Out! - September 30th, 2009 in Nevada City; October 8th, 2009 in Truckee
Bowl For Kids' Sake - March 28th, 2009
Wine Tasting and Auction - November 21st, 2009

BIG Night Out!
Each month, a different restaurant supports our mentoring programs by picking a day and time to host our BIG Night Out event where a percentage of all sales during that time are donated to our agency.

The September Big Night Out event will be at Matteo's Public in Nevada City, and they will be donating 15% of all sales for the evening to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County!
WHERE: Matteo's Public, 300 Commercial Street in downtown Nevada City
WHEN: Wednesday, September 30th, 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The October Big Night Out event will be at Sandy’s Pub in Squaw Valley, and they will be donating 10% of all sales for the evening to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County (and North Tahoe)!

WHERE:
Sandy's Pub, the Resort at Squaw Creek, located on the East Side of Squaw Valley
WHEN: Thursday, October 8th, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

WHY: Help local children get the mentors they need  by dining out at the featured restaurants on these days, and they will donate a percentage of all sales to BBBS!  We hope to have your support because every child deserves to have someone in their lives they can count on, who will be there for them to listen, give guidance, and provide them with opportunities to learn new things while having a great time!  We aspire to provide every child that wants and needs a mentor with a Big Brother or Big Sister, and your support can help us make that happen!  For more information, call us at 273-2227.

27th Annual Wine Tasting & Auction

Saturday, November 21st, 2009
6:00 - 9:00 P.M.

This fundraising event has been a part of our agency since 1982, and features fine wines from a dozen or so local wineries, exceptional hors d'oeurves, and many wonderful items to bid on during the silent and live auctions. This event is a great opportunity to mix and mingle while shopping early for the holidays! Everyone will receive a Souvenir Wine Glass.

The event will be at the Grass Valley Veteran's Hall, 255 South Auburn Street.

Bowl For Kids' Sake!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Prosperity Lanes
420 Henderson, Grass Valley
Come and join the fun! This is a signature Big Brothers Big Sisters event and agencies across the country recruit thousands of bowlers to support mentoring.  Come join the thousands of bowlers in a nation-wide effort to raise funding for mentoring by participating at our next event with your bowling team (if you don’t have a team, let us know and we’ll “team” you up with others!).  Each individual bowler will request sponsorship pledges for their bowling day and will bowl with their team alongside other supporting teams from Nevada County. Or if you are not a bowler but want to support this event, you can become a Lane Sponsor or donate a pledge in support of someone who is bowling.

Mountain Bike Endurance Ride
Saturday, May 16th 2009
All day, starting at 7:30 a.m. in Pioneer Park, Nevada City
The Mountain Bike Endurance Ride is for mountain bike enthusiasts who love a great challenge!  There are two routes: The 50-mile route follows a beautiful loop out of Nevada City on local trails, including the incomparable South Yuba Trail. The route is comprised of approximately 80% single track, 7000+ feet of climbing, and stunning views of the South Yuba River. The 45-mile route is less demanding, but also follows some of the best trails in the area.  The 45-mile route is perfect for riders who want to test their endurance, but are not quite ready for the technical challenges that the 50-mile route provides.
Riders collect pledges in lieu of an entrance fee and have the goal of raising $250 each for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County. Riders can collect pledges in person, or online through an easy-to-use fundraising page for our agency. Click here for details. For riders who prefer to collect pledges in person, click on the pledge form link to print the form and use. Or you may wish to use both methods in an effort to request sponsorships from people who do not have access to the internet as well as from those who do.  Riders receive goodie bags filled with endurance snacks and other items, including a free t-shirt commemorating the ride, and are eligible for prizes based on the amount they raise for our agency.
Ride Sponsors help offset the expenses associated with the event and raise additional money for our mentoring programs. Ride Sponsors may donate $300 to BBBS for the event or mountain-bike related goods and services to be used as prizes. Ride Sponsors will have their business name and logo printed on the back of the t-shirts given to all the riders, and have their name and logo printed on posters at the event. Additionally, all Ride Sponsors are mentioned in our electronic newsletter and on our website.

Annual BBQ & Pool Party
Although not a fundraising event, this annual BBQ and pool party celebration has been an important event since our inception back in 1981!  This event is for everyone who participates in our mentoring programs, their families, and community members who would like to see Bigs and Littles "in action"!  The event is typically at the end of August, so please check back later for specific date, time and location.
