Invest in Mentoring and Make a Difference in YOUR Community!
Each day Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County builds a better future for children.
It costs our agency an average of $1,500 to create, monitor, and support a safe and rewarding mentoring match that makes a BIG difference in a child's life. We have more children on the list waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister than we have the capacity to serve. Please give now and take a child off the list!
There are many ways to contribute to our mission and some don't require money out of your pocket! Please take a look at the options below to see which one is best suited for you:
By contributing to Big Brothers Big Sister of Nevada County in one of these ways, you provide:
-
Volunteer Mentor screening and a background check for a safe match.

-
Tips, training, and ongoing supervision and support to foster fun and rewarding interaction.

BIG Supermarket Partner Program
Simply by shopping at one of the participating Supermarkets (Raley's, Save Mart, SPD) and showing them your card or coupon designating Big Brothers Big Sisters as the beneficiary, 3% of your grocery receipt will be donated to our agency EVERY TIME YOU SHOP! This is the easiest way to contribute to our programs...without paying a dime out of your own pocket! All you need to do is the following:
- Go to our "Contact Us" page and complete the contact form at the bottom. All we need is your first and last name, phone number, and mailing address.
- Please indicate in the comments field of the form which supermarket you want us to sign you up for: Raley's, Save Mart, and/or SPD. You can sign up for all three if you want!
- We will then use that information to sign you up for the supermarket partner program(s) of your choice and request a card or coupon book for you to present at the store each time you shop.
- Once we receive your card or coupon book, we will mail it to you for you to start using right away!
Then, every quarter, each of our BIG Supermarket Partner Programs will cut us a check totaling the amount donated to our agency based on all the receipts that designated our agency as the beneficiary! To give you an idea of how much this can amount to, we had about 200 people signed up for the Albertson's program when it was in business here and we raised $10,000 a year from that program alone!
Cars for Kids' Sake is an innovative way to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County raise funds by donating your unwanted vehicle. Donated vehicles qualify as charitable gifts and may be eligible for tax deduction.
We welcome all types of vehicles, including cars, trucks, SUVs, motor homes, boats, airplanes, farm equipment, and construction equipment. You will be asked to describe the condition of the vehicle. The vehicle does not need to run.
The process for donating a car to BBBS of Nevada County is simple and hassle-free. Call Big Brothers Big Sister's Vehicle Donation Program at (800) 710-9145 and designate Big Brothers Big Sister of Nevada County for your donation.
Or you can follow the easy steps below to arrange a pickup for your unwanted vehicle. The vehicle will be picked up, processed, and sold to help kids in our community.
Steps to Donating Your Car - Please Read Carefully
Step 1
Click on the following link: Donate your car! Then select GO! You will be asked for your vehicle's Make, Model, and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN#) and current mileage.
Step 2
After you enter the donation information, you will need to print out the forms at the end of the donation wizard and send them to us with your vehicle's title.
Step 3
Your vehicle will then be sold at a dealers-only auction or to a licensed recycler. With all costs deducted, Big Brothers Big Sisters consistently receives between 65% and 80% of the gross sale price. Proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters programs in your area.
Step 4
It's Tax deductible! Big Brothers Big Sisters will send you a letter acknowledging your donation. Use this letter as supporting documentation for your IRS deduction, since the 'fair market value' of your donation may be tax deductible.
To find out what the 'fair market value' of your vehicle is, follow this link to Kelley Blue Book .
Instructions for reporting this deduction can be found in IRS Publication 526 . It is generally referred to as "the price a willing buyer would pay to a willing seller."
Employee Contributions and Employer Matching Contributions
Want to get your company involved in making a difference in your community? Through the United Way of Nevada County, local businesses can provide a means for employees to make regular contributions from their paychecks to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County or to the United Way general fund, from which our agency recieves grant funding (we are a partner agency). If we could get 100 employees in Nevada County to designate $10/month to our agency, we would raise $12,000 annually!
Many corporations match gifts to charitable institutions made by employees. Some will match the gifts of employee spouses and retired employees as well. Find out if your company has a matching gifts program.
