The National Flags for Veterans’ Graves organization, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, is participating in the 2009 Louisville Gallopalooza by creating one of the 200 life-sized horses that will be displayed in Louisville for Memorial Day and The Kentucky Derby in 2009. The horse that we are sponsoring is one of the most memorable horses of all time, Black Jack, the riderless horse that followed the caisson carrying the casket of John Fitzgerald Kennedy in his funeral procession to Arlington Cemetery in November of 1963. During his 29 years of service Black Jack participated in the state funerals of JFK, Herbert Hoover, Lyndon Johnson, and Five-Star General Douglas MacArthur, and he escorted hundreds of our military to their final resting places.
Black Jack will be highly promoted by the National Flags for Veterans’ Graves Organization during the coming year. We will feature the story of Black Jack and his Sponsors and Creators on our website www.Flags4Vets.com and broadly disperse press releases and other written materials about Black Jack and his amazing story.
Help us honor our fallen Veterans by donating to the BLACK JACK FUND or by hands-on helping to make one of the most memorable Gallopalooza Horses of all time. Funds collected beyond expenses for Black Jack will fund flags for U.S. Veterans’ graves.
