Extra Judicial Killings in and around the only paved road in Ogaden
|
Nov 21, 2007 Reports reaching our service desk from many parts of Ogaden confirm many extra judicial killings that were carried out by newly deployed Ethiopian and militias allied with the Ethiopians.
It is reported that these mass killings are taking most of the areas surrounding the only paved road in Ogaden where United Nations officials are reportedly said to be touring. As reported by our reporters and confirmed by many eyewitnesses these new mass killings have taken place in the provinces of Nogob, Doolo, east of Jarar and Qoraxey.
The town of Gudhis, which is forty kilometers north west of Iimeey is said to have taken the brunt of the mass killings, carried out by the Ethiopians since November 12th this year. It is reported that the Ethiopians that carried out the mass killing spree have so far burned down seven houses and demolished many buildings in the town of Gudhis. Eyewitnesses report that apart from the property destruction and mass killings the Ethiopian military personnel looted money many sources put around two hundred thousand Birs.
An Ogaden Online reporter who visited the town posing as a member of one of the allied militias that took part in this killing spree reported that those whose property were either destroyed or looted in Gudhis are now squatting outside the town. This reporter was able to witness Ethiopian soldiers who were refusing the displaced civilians to either get back to the town itself or to go to the nearby watering wells for drinking water.
To compound the problem, it is reported that the heavy rains have started in this area and many of the kids are said to be the most affected by the lack of shelter and rations. Up to the time of filing this report there has been no UN agencies who have come to the aid of this displaced civilians some of whose loved ones were killed by the Ethiopian military.
In a related news that shows the extent of the renewed mass killings campaigns spearheaded by the Ethiopian military personnel, three male youths were shot to death in the city of Fiiq on November 16th, 2007. The three dead youth were said to have been students attending middle school. The names of the three deceased youth are:
1. Axamed Maxamuud Sheekh
2. Nuur Cabdi Xuseen
3. Maxamed C/laahi Sheelh Ismaaciil
So far efforts to bury the three deceased youth have been blocked by the Ethiopians. The bodies of the deceased are still reported to be lying in the city center.
It is reported that in the city of Caado many civilians who attempted to rebuild their dwellings burned down by the Ethiopian military back in July this year have watched in horror the Ethiopians destroying the same dwellings on November 18th, 2007. It is reported that those military personnel who demolished the newly rebuilt homes have also tortured many of the owners of the newly built homes. The extent of this torture has not yet been verified.
